A car warranty is something that defines the reliability of the product. More the car warranty more will be the peace of mind.

There are different types of warranties provided by automobile manufacturers. Some of them are simple and clear, while others may be more hidden.

Different warranties cover different segments of parts like the paint, electrical components, machinery, etc.

All these warranties consist of different periods with different terms and conditions.

So the first one on our list is:

1.Powertrain warranty

This warranty is also known as a drivetrain warranty. This warranty covers almost everything related to the power-giving machinery. It includes an engine, axle, driveshaft, or anything else directly related to delivering power to your car. Electrical components or parts like the belts are generally not covered in this warranty.

The battery comes with its manufacturer warranty.

The powertrain warranty is also one of the warranties provided for the lengthiest period. Many manufacturers offer a powertrain warranty for up to 10 years/ 100000 miles, whichever comes first.

Usually, this warranty range is between five years/ 60000 miles for 7years/ 70000 miles, whichever comes first.

This warranty is provided for the long term as there are very few chances of having any issue with the power delivery of a new vehicle.

A few manufacturers offer transferable powertrain warranties. Now, this means you can transfer your car to a subsequent owner with a commitment.

Usually, the powertrain warranty reduces to half upon transfer.

2.Bumper to bumper warranty

This warranty is also known as a comprehensive warranty. This warranty covers most of the components of your car.

A comprehensive warranty covers any issue with the steering, Windows, seat adjustment, etc.

This warranty covers only components; bumper to bumper doesn’t mean this warranty includes car bumper.

Since this warranty covers several components, it is for a shorter period. There are several possibilities of issues with any electrical or non-electrical part, so this warranty ranges between 3 years/ 36,000 miles or 6years/ 60000 miles, whichever comes first.

A comprehensive warranty has several terms and conditions, so you should go through them thoroughly before making any claim.

These terms and conditions will state what, how, and up to what extent a component is covered.

These terms and conditions also state any exclusion regarding the coverage of a defective part.

3.Anti-corrosion warranty

This warranty is also known as an anti-perforation warranty. This warranty covers the metal parts or metal panels in case of perforation due to corrosion.

Anti-corrosion warranty is not as simple as it looks. Different terms define what extent of corrosion is inclusive and what is not.

If the corrosion starts from the outer surface reaching the inner metal parts, then the perforation is not covered under warranty. According to the manufacturers, this corrosion is due to external factors, and there is no issue with the parts delivered.

Long story short, this warranty covers rust only if it is induced from inside of metal and reaches the outer surface.

An anti-corrosion warranty is provided for 5years/ 100000 miles or 7years/ 100000 miles.

4.Emission warranty

There are rules and regulations regarding the emission from a vehicle. Emission means the discharge of gas produced during combustion into the atmosphere.

Your new car has design and manufacturing according to these rules. If, in any case, you found the emission much more than permissible, you can claim this warranty.

This warranty covers those parts which directly help in reducing the emission. If any of these components fail to work, then emission increases.

Emission warranty ranges between 3 years/ 80,000 km or 8years/ 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

5.Roadside assistance

This warranty can work as a reliability factor. Roadside assistance assists you in case of issues such as flat tires, dead battery, etc. In case of some serious issues, the manufacturer will tow your vehicle to the nearest garage.

This warranty also has a lot of exclusions, so check out for every term and condition.

Roadside assistance generally ranges between 3 years/ 36,000 miles or 5years/ unlimited miles.

6.Paint surface warranty

This warranty covers any manufacturing defect in paint. It includes bubbles, cracks, or any other improper application of paint.

Most manufacturers provide a paint surface warranty for 3years/ unlimited miles.

7.Extended warranty

An extended warranty means the warranty that you can purchase to extend the period. Many companies offer reliable and economical extended warranties. They are paid warranties which means you have to pay to get your warranty period extended.

Different manufacturers provide different coverage in an extended warranty.

This warranty generally has a period of one or two years.

 Conclusion

These are the different types of car warranties offered by the manufacturer. Except for an extended warranty, all others are free of cost. An extended warranty also has less coverage as compared to the new vehicle warranty.
